Self-Direction is an OPWDD Home and Community Based Services waiver self-directed service option that empowers people with developmental disabilities and their families design and manage services through a plan based on their individual needs and goals. CDS Monarch offers both start-up and support brokers to assist participants through this process.
Those who enroll in Self-Direction can also control their own portable Self-Direction budgets, with assistance from a financial management services agency (FMS). Individuals and family members can choose to hire and manage their own staff supports.
The Self-Direction plans and budgets allow participants access to supports required to:
- live at home or in a home of their own.
- pursue interesting and meaningful employment, volunteer, or participate in other community activities.
- engage in satisfying, productive relationships with family, friends, and community members.
- maintain a healthy lifestyle.
