McNaught Field CDS Housing

From WENY News (Elmira):

ELMIRA, NY (WENY) - The senior citizen population in Elmira is growing and the only population expected to increase in many communities including Chemung County.

In the next 25 years, the population is expected to increase by 20 percent. As that number grows, Pamela Brown, Director a the Chemung County Department of Aging and Long Term Care says senior housing is important.

“Study after study shows that the vast majority of older adults want to remain in their homes and communities as they age. So, we know that the availability of safe, affordable housing is integral to quality of life as we age,” said Brown.

Back in August of 2015, a non-profit organization, CDS Life Transitions proposed affordable housing for seniors but faced a slight set back from the former Elmira City Council.

However, with the new city council, they are again proposing the fifty unit complex at McNaught Field off Maple Avenue; forty spaces for senior citizens, ten for those with disabilities.
