Rochester, NY – July 30, 2015 – According to the United States Department of Labor, “The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in employment, transportation, public accommodation, communications, and governmental activities.” As an organization that provides services and supports for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, CDS Monarch recognizes the 25th anniversary of this significant measure.
“This is a law that has revolutionized equality for everyone, no matter their disability,” CDS Monarch President/CEO Sankar Sewnauth said. “This law allows people to engage in the opportunities that will only improve their quality of life and help them achieve independence. This is a historic act with an abundance of positive implications.
“We have about 35 people employed in the community, working at places like the U of R, Home Depot and Goodwill, and we’re proud to be able to help these people be independent and work in the community, thanks in part to this law.”
