March 10, 2011 – Webster, NY – In honor of Disability Awareness month, the CDS Foundation is holding its fourth annual ‘Strikes for Abilities’ bowling event this upcoming Sunday, March 13, 2011.

“The ‘Strikes for Abilities’ bowling event is a fundraiser run by the families of individuals we support.   I am grateful for all the hard work and dedication they put into this event.  Because of their support, we can raise money to help enhance the recreation and wellness of people supported by CDS.” stated Sankar Sewnauth, CDS President/CEO. “Because of the money raised last year through this event,  individuals were able to add snow shoeing to the list of sports they compete in, and they even brought home some gold medals for CDS!”

All proceeds benefit unfunded recreation, health and wellness opportunities, such as the Special Olympics program, for people supported by CDS, Inc.  CDS has over 100 athletes who participate actively in Special Olympics. Major sponsors of this year’s event include North Forest Office Space, Fibertech Networks, and Best Buy.

“It’s important for me, as a parent, to be a part of the bowling event.” said Karyl Zoyack, Committee Chair of the event. “CDS has done so much to help my son and this is just one way I can give back.  My son enjoys participating in Special Olympics and recreation activities with CDS. As families, we know, without this fundraiser, our children’s dreams to compete and participate in these activities would not be possible. Thank you to all who come out to support!"

The event will take place at Clover Lanes, 2750 Monroe Ave., Rochester, NY. In-person registration begins at  1p.m. but pre-registration is in full swing up until the day of the fundraiser. Participants can bowl by themselves or with a team of up to five people. Registration gives bowlers two games, shoe rental, food and drinks.

Those looking for more information or those who would like to register are asked to contact the event coordinator, Amber Johnson, at 585-347-1205 or ajohnson@CDSunistel.org. or visit our website at www.cdsfoundation.org.
