Megan Smith started at CDS Monarch about three years ago as a Support Specialist at Penbrooke Creative Opportunities, where she still works today. Her duties include assisting the individuals with daily tasks, which at PCO often includes various art activities. She helps them develop social skills and further their personal goals to become more independent.
“Megan is a model staff and is always willing to go above and beyond,” PCO Site Manager Ajaleah Bobowski said. “Her passion and enthusiasm are evident in her interactions with the individuals at PCO. She is always willing to learn something new and is a strong advocate for the individuals she supports.”
“I do it because it matters,” Megan said. “Keeping them safe and helping them learn. What I like most at the end of the day is that they go home feeling like they matter.”
Megan said she heard about CDS Monarch when a friend referred her to the organization. She has a daughter on the autism spectrum, so it just made sense to her. “As I parent, I know how much it means to have the right people—how much better they can do with the right people,” Megan said, and she does her best to be the right person for the people she serves.
Megan also offered advice to staff at CDS Monarch. “Get to know the individuals,” she said. “Let them create the relationship. It’s not about what kind of relationship you want, but it’s about what they want and need and what will work in the end.”
In her spare time, Megan enjoys engaging in outdoors activities like snowboarding and hiking.
Thank you, Megan, for your dedication to our mission and helping the people we serve achieve greatness!
