Neurologic Music Therapy is defined as the therapeutic application of music to cognitive, sensory and motor functions due to a neurologic disease of the human nervous system. It is based on a neuroscience model of music perception and production, and the influence of music on functional changes in nonmusical brain and behavior functions. Our Veterans participate in specific interventions to enhance cognitive skills including attention, memory and executive functions. It also helps to improve stress management, social skills, acceptance of emotions, communication and interpersonal relationships. Music therapy is also known to rehabilitate sensorimotor functions including gait and gross/fine motor abilities and improve fluency and quality of speech. Our music therapists are certified in both neurologic music therapy and traditional music therapy techniques. In simpler terms, music is good for you, so we use it to help our Veterans!

What goes hand in hand with music? Dance! While some dance for enjoyment, others dance for different reasons. Dance and movement therapy focuses on expressive, communicative and adaptive behaviors through group and individual sessions. It is effective for individuals with developmental, medical, social, physical and psychological impairments.
