Johnathan Elliott started out as a Support Specialist at CDS Monarch's Roxwell residence in September 2012. Shortly after he began there he was offered the opportunity to fill some shifts at the Nucor House, where Veterans in Warrior Salute can live while they are enrolled in the program. John jumped on this, and for a year and a half he assisted the Veterans with running errands, keeping their home clean and safe, and providing them with support when they needed someone to talk to. In April, John transitioned into a part-time position as a Case Manager for Warrior Salute, where he spends time advocating with the Veterans to obtain public assistance, working through school and court systems, and filing for VA claims. He also helps them get connected to housing and employment resources, complete their homework, and work through any paperwork or processes that they need to follow, in addition to lending his ear for any concerns and questions.

"John is a wonderful asset to the Warrior Salute Program," commented Sarah Brasse, Clinical Coordinator for Warrior Salute. "He has great initiative, determination, and passion working with the Veterans. He has proven to be an exemplary employee and we are thrilled to have him on our team!"

"I appreciate the relationships that I am building with such courageous people, for their openness to communicating with me, and for being able to work with such a great group of people," shared John when asked what he likes about his position.

John's advice to others? "Don't assume anything. Just know what your own intentions are, understand the needs and wants of those you are working with and respect them by meeting them where they are at in their life."

John is a member of the Chi Sigma Iota - Nu Chapter - International Counseling Honor Society and the Graduate Chair of the American Counseling Association of New York. When he's not working he is attending graduate school to earn his Masters in Mental Health or interning at the VA. In his free time, he likes to go mountain biking.

Thank you John, for all that you are doing to assist our Veterans in Warrior Salute to make a successful transition back to civilian life. Your compassion for the work you are doing stands out!
