Ben and David have known each other for several years, beginning their friendship as housemates living at CDS Monarch's Hardwood Lane residence. Last year, Ben and David both decided that they were ready for a change. They wanted to take the next step towards greater independence in their lives. So, after months of preparation, Ben and David moved into their very own apartment in Webster on August 1, 2013. Now, just six months later, they are both very glad that they made this decision.

"I knew that I was ready to move out on my own. I am very comfortable here, and it feels good to take care of my own place," says David. "I can say that I have 'checked off' one of my personal goals."

CDS Monarch continues to support Ben and David by providing a few hours of community habilitation services every week. Staff assist with skill development in areas like: cooking, budgeting, and cleaning. They also take Ben and David out into the community for recreational activities - a few favorites have been snowtubing and game night at a coffee shop.

"This was a huge change for me," says Ben, "but I'm glad that I did it. I am closer to work and the places I like to visit. And I'm living in Webster - 'Where Life is Worth Living'!"
