The New York State Special Olympic Summer Games were held the weekend of June 14-16th at the University of Buffalo. CDS Monarch had eleven athletes and four coaches attend. They were part of the 1,800 plus athletes and coaches from all across the state.

CDS Monarch had four Aquatic Athletes, coached by Bill Warden, and 7 track and field athletes coached by Ed Basaman, George Vito and Michelle White-Savage.

Aquatic team and results:
  • John B. got a Gold Medal in 25 meter free style and a Bronze metal in 25 meter backstroke. 
  • Craig N. got Silver Medals in 25 meter free style and 25 meter backstroke. 
  • Josh M. got Bronze Medals in 25 meter free style and 25 meter backstroke. 
  • Kris W. got 4th place in 25 meter free style and 5th in 25 meter backstroke.
  • CDS Monarch's 4X25 meter relay team consisting of John, Craig, Josh and Kris won the Bronze Medal in their division. 
Track and Field team and results:
  • Pam D. got a Silver medal in 50 meter sprint and 4th place in 100 Meter. 
  • Christine E. got a Silver medal in 50 meter and Bronze medal in 100 meter. 
  • Eric J. got a Gold Medal in 100 meter and Silver Medal in 200 meter. 
  • Ken M. got a Gold Medal in 50 meter and Silver Medal in 100 Meter. 
  • David P. got a Bronze Medal in 50 meter and Silver Medal in 100 meter. 
  • Mike T. got a Gold Medal in 100 meter and Bronze Medal in 100 meter. 
  • Amanda V. got Gold Medals in 100 meter and 200 meter.
  • The 4X100 Meter relay team representing the Genesee region, made up of three CDS Monarch runners and one runner from LAI, won the Silver medal in their division. The three CDS Monarch runners were Eric, Ken and Amanda. 
All the athletes had a great time competing, attending the opening ceremonies, socializing and seeing some old friends from other parts of the state. The team is already looking forward to next year when the games will be held again at the University of Buffalo.
