The three-week session of Unified Volleyball ended Monday with high spirits. The games were just for fun - no medals were awarded but placement was acknowledged. Three CDS teams competed. Two were designated as Gold Medal teams and one was designated as Silver.
The ability to play volleyball is not the most important part of this event, having fun and sharing that fun with Special Partners is the goal. "Winning and losing wasn't as important at the Unified event. What mattered the most was cheering on your team and those you competed against, making sure everyone got a fair chance to play, and sharing a high five for a great effort," said Special Partner, Amber Johnson. "Being a Special Olympics partner allowed my husband and I the opportunity to support a lot of wonderful people in their health and recreational wellness, and to make some great friends that we look forward to seeing again soon!"
The Special Partners are community volunteers who signed up to play with the Special Olympics athletes. Special Partners were Amber and Chris Johnson, Anto Beslic, Jody Hooper, Kathy and Eric Peach, and several members of the Pittsford Girls Traveling Volleyball Team. Players included Lauren D., Eric J., Ken M., Chris C., Mike T., Sara B., Marc D., Pam D., Robert F., Maureen K., David P., John B., Mark L., Craig N., Amanda V., Kris W. and Corey Z. The teams were coached by Ed Basaman, Jim Vito and Marie Basaman.
