On Friday, May 28, Kerry Bode, President of Handicapables at CDS, participated in the Special Olympics hosted at Victor Central Schools.

The day began with a parade. Every school made banners and decorations to carry, one participant carried a torch, and everybody wore their school t-shirts. Then they had the opening ceremony with speeches given by Victor town officials.

Athletes recited the Athletes oath: "Let me win, but if I can not win, let me be brave in the attempt," and everyone sang the Star-Spangled Banner.
Athletes participated in a number of events including: softball throw, running, hurdles, the wheelchair dash, and beanbag toss. Kerry raced in the wheelchair dash, winning a medal for 3rd place. In the softball throw she got a ribbon for 4th place.

Kerry mentioned that she was able to reconnect with friends. The Special Olympics is "fun and you get to see a lot of people that have the same disability as you."

Sincerely,
